Skirving Scores in Royals Home Loss to Nailers, 4-1

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals (8-13-4-0), proud ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers and Lehigh Valley Phantoms, fell to the Wheeling nailers (16-3-1-0), 4-1, at Santander Arena on Friday, December 13th. Goaltender Keith Petruzzelli (4-6-3-0) suffered the loss in goal with 30 saves on 34 shots faced while Nailers goaltender Taylor Gauthier (3-0-0-0) earned the win in goal with 28 saves on 29 shots faced.

BOX SCORE

Reading opened play with the game’s-opening six shots and goal at 1:41 on Todd Skirving’s sixth goal of the season. Nick Capone earned the lone assist for his first professional career point.

The Nailers fired back with three goals to take a two-goal lead into the first intermission, 3-1. Jagger Joshua buried a cross crease pass from Gabe Klassen for his third goal in his fourth game as a Nailer at 12:15. Matty De St. Phalle put Wheeling ahead for good with back-to-back goals at 13:57 and 18:26 for his eighth and ninth goals of the season. The multi-goal game was the first of De St. Phalle’s professional career and provided Jordan Martel two of his three assists in the game.

Kyle Jackson secured his own multi-point game with a goal at 16:27 into the second period to complement his assist on De St. Phalle’s second goal in the contest. Reading was held scoreless on their seven shots in the second period, 11 shots on goal in the final frame, and four power plays in the game. 

The Royals conclude their two-game home series against Wheeling at Santander Arena on Saturday, December 14th at 7:00 PM.
