Reading, PA - The Reading Royals, proud ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers and Lehigh Valley Phantoms, announced that forward Michael Herrera has signed to a tryout contract (PTO).

Herrera, 24, is entering his second-full professional season following a 57-game campaign between the ECHL where the Syracuse, New York native recorded a goal in three games with Adirondack, and the SPHL where he posted 38 points (16g-22a) across stops in Birmingham, Peoria and Macon.

"I’m excited to be heading to Reading in just a few weeks,” stated Herrera. "It’s an honor to join the organization and have such great support from the fans and community. I hope that the long summer of training helps me to contribute to the team from the start. Go Royals!”

"Michael is a player who can play with pace and competes hard,” stated Anthony Peters, Head Coach and General Manager. "He played a couple games last year in our league and is looking to come in this year and earn a spot to be an every day player.”

Across 87 professional career games, 84 of which in the SPHL, the 5'9", 185 pound, left-shot forward has logged 54 points (23g-31a) and a +9 rating. Additionally, Herrera added two SPHL playoff career games with Macon in 2026.

Prior to opening his professional career with Pensacola in the SPHL in 2025, Herrera played two seasons at NCAA D-III Utica University where he tallied 26 points (13g-13a) in 40 games.

Home Opener:

The Royals player their home opener at Santander Arena on Saturday, October 24 at 7:00 p.m. against Kalamazoo. The home opener opens a two-game series with the Wings which concludes on Sunday, October 25 at 3:00 p.m. The Royals hoist a record of 9-11-1-3 in home openers with their last home opener victory coming against the Norfolk Admirals, 6-4, on October 23 of the 2021-22 season.
