Royals Claim Jason Horvath, D Off Waivers

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals, proud ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers and Lehigh Valley Phantoms, announced that defenseman Jason Horvath has been claimed off waivers.

Horvath, 24, opened the 2024-25 season, his fourth professional season, with the Maine Mariners where he totaled two penalty minutes and a -2 rating across 10 games. The Russell, Ontario native has accumulated 25 points (2g-23a), 42 penalty minutes and a -26 rating across 92 ECHL career games between Maine (2021-22, 2023-24), Rapid City (2022-23) and Trois-Rivières (2022-23).

In his 2021-22 rookie season with Maine, the 6'1", 198-pound, left-shot defenseman appeared in 37 games, registering 13 points (1g-12a). The Mariners traded Horvath to the Wheeling Nailers during the following offseason, although he would never appear in a game for them.

Horvath re-joined the Mariners in January 2024, when he returned to North America following a stint in Romania for Gyergyói HK where he registered 10 points (3g-7a) in 22 games. Across 19 games for the Mariners in 2023-24, Horvath registered four assists.

Prior to turning pro, Horvath played four seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) for two seasons with the Shawinigan Cataractes, and two for the Halifax Mooseheads where he was an alternate captain in his final season.
