Reading, PA - The Reading Royals (8-14-4-0), proud ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers and Lehigh Valley Phantoms, fell to the Wheeling nailers (16-3-1-0), 4-1, at Santander Arena on Saturday, December 14th. Goaltender Keith Petruzzelli (4-7-3-0) suffered the loss in goal with 17 saves on 21 shots faced while Nailers goaltender Sergei Murashov (10-2-0-0) earned the win in goal with 30 saves on 31 shots faced.
After a scoreless first period, Wheeling captured a 2-0 lead with goals from Kyle Jackson at 13:17 and Matty De St. Phalle at 17:37 into the middle frame. Jackson earned a multi-point game with an assist on De St. Phalle’s 10th goal of the season.
Before the intermission, Austin Master scored his first goal of the season for Reading on a rebound off of a wrist shot from Jake Smith at 18:49. The goal was Master’s fourth point (1g-3a) in nine games as a Royal this season and was Reading’s lone goal in the game.
Murashov turned aside all 12 shots he faced from the Royals offense in the final frame, while Louie Roehl and Jordan Martel notched goals for Wheeling at 0:25 and 3:18, respectively.
The Royals open a two-game series with the Adirondack Thunder at home on Friday, December 20th at 7 PM at Santander Arena, before taking on the Thunder at Cool Insuring Arena on Saturday, December 21st at 7 PM.
