Reading, PA - The Reading Royals (5-5-1), proud ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers and Lehigh Valley Phantoms, defeated the Indy Fuel (2-5-0), 4-2, in their second game of a three-game homestand at Santander Arena on Saturday, November 9th. Goaltender Keith Petruzzelli (3-1-0) earned the win with 27 saves on 29 shots faced. Fuel goaltender Ben Gaudreau (1-3-0) suffered the loss in goal with 22 saves on 27 shots faced.
Lou-Felix Denis opened the scoring with a shorthanded breakaway goal 15:05 into the first period. Denis’ second goal of the season was the second of his professional career and Reading’s third shorthanded goal of the season.
Brandon Saigeon tied the score for Indy 5:55 into the second period with a wrap-around goal for his second goal of the season. Reading restored their one-goal lead on Sam Sedley’s first professional career goal at 9:43 into the second period to provide Reading a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes.
In the opening 2:55 of the third period, Tyer Gratton and Parker AuCoin scored back-to-back power play goals for their fifth and second goals of the season, respectively. The goals came on a 5-on-3 man-advantage for the Royals, which finished the game 2/8 on the power play.
Nathan Burke scored his first professional career goal for Indy at 16:44 of the final frame to cut the deficit to two for Indy, 4-2. The Royals secured the 4-2 win to improve to 2-1-1 at home this season and 13-3 all-time against Indy.
The Royals conclude their three-game homestand with a two-game weekend series finale against the Fuel on Sunday, November 10th at 3:00 PM.
