Reading, PA - The Reading Royals (6-9-3-0), proud ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers and Lehigh Valley Phantoms, fell to the Norfolk Admirals (8-4-3-0) in overtime, 4-3, at Santander Arena on Friday, November 22nd. Goaltender Keith Petruzzelli (3-3-2) suffered the loss in goal with 28 saves on 32 shots faced. Admirals’ goaltender Domenic DiVincentiis (2-0-0) earned the win in goal with 29 saves on 32 shots faced.
Norfolk scored the game’s opening goal at 8:23 of the first period on Filip Fornåå Svensson’s first of two goals in the game. Reading responded with two goals in the final half of the first period to take a one-goal lead into the second period, 2-1. Tyler Gratton deflected in a pass from Logan Britt for his sixth goal of the season at 10:11 before Jacques Bouquot rifled home a wrist shot on the power play at 18:55.
Norfolk took command of the lead with a two-goal second period with both tallies coming on a 5-3 and 5-4 man-advantage. Carson Golder roofed a wrist shot for his seventh goal of the season at 14:31 before Svensson net his second goal of the game at 15:20.
The one-goal score stood through the rest of the second period and 17:19 of the third period, until Ryan Leibold tapped in a puck through a scrum in Norfolk’s crease for the equalizer. Reading forced overtime to take a point, however fell in the extra frame after Petruzzelli attempted to clear a puck from outside his crease that deflected into Norfolk’s possession and allowed Marko Reifenberger to net the game-winning goal at 3:20.
The Royals conclude their two-game home stand against the Maine Mariners on Saturday, November 23rd at 7:00 PM at Santander Arena.
