Primeau, McMenamin Net Goals; Petruzzelli Saves 35 in Royals Loss to Thunder, 3-2

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals (7-11-3-0), proud ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers and Lehigh Valley Phantoms, fell to the Adirondack Thunder (8-7-0-1), 3-2, at Cool Insuring Arena on Saturday, November 30th. Goaltender Keith Petruzzelli (4-4-2-0) suffered the loss in goal with 35 saves on 38 shots faced while Thunder goaltender Tyler Brennan (3-4-0-1) earned the win in goal with 17 saves on 19 shots faced.

BOX SCORE

Adirondack potted the game’s opening goal 33 seconds into the game on a deflection from Andre Ghantous off of a goal-line pass from Kevin O’Neil from the near boards in Reading’s zone. Ghantous returned the favor on O’Neil’s fourth goal of the season at 17:21 of the first period to extend Adirondack’s lead to two, 2-0.

Mason Primeau scored his first goal of the season on a Royals power play before the intermission, at 18:38, to draw the score back within one for Reading, 2-1. Jake Smith and Gianfranco Cassaro earned the helpers on Primeau’s goal.

The 2-1 lead for Reading stood until the 18:25 mark of the second period when Ghantous notched his second goal and third point of the game to restore Adirondack’s two-goal lead, 3-1. Reading entered the third period down two goals and outshot 26-18.

Connor McMenamin beat Brennan with a one-time blast from the right circle 2:38 into the final frame for Reading’s second power play goal of the game. McMenamin’s team-leading seventh goal of the season, however, would be Reading’s final goal of the game as Brennan turned aside all five shots he faced for the remainder of regulation.

The Royals return home on Saturday, December 7th to host Adirondack at 7:00 PM at Santander Arena. The promotional game is the Royals Military Appreciation & Teddy Bear Toss Night, presented by SolveIT Solutions.
