Reading, PA - The Reading Royals (4-5-1), proud ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers and Lehigh Valley Phantoms, fell to the Norfolk Admirals in overtime, 6-5, to open their three-game homestand at Santander Arena on Wednesday, November 6th. Goaltender Parker Gahagen (2-3-1) suffered the overtime loss in 23 saves on 29 shots faced. Admirals’ goaltender Joe Cannata (2-0-0) earned the win in goal with 22 saves on 27 shots faced.

After a scoreless first period, Reading broke the scoreless affair with a power play goal from Matt Miller at 3:21 into the second period. Miller’s first goal as a Royal earned Connor McMenamin his first of three assists in the game. Miller earned his first assist and second of three points (1g-2a) in a career-high game on a shorthanded goal from Todd Skirving at 4:11 of the middle frame. Skirving's fourth goal of the season was the team’s second shorthanded goal of the season, with both scored by Skirving.

Norfolk answered back with a pair of goals to even the score after 40 minutes, 2-2. Former Royals Ryan Chyzwoski scored his first goal as an Admiral in his home barn last season at 8:23 before Nathan Kelly’s first professional career goal to tie the game at 18:15.

The Admirals opened the third period on the man advantage and converted 38 seconds in to take their first lead of the game, 3-2, on Sanghoon Shin’s second goal of the season. Reading and Norfolk exchanged goals with both Travis Broughman and Chyzwoski scoring their second goals of the season for their respective teams before Gianfranco Cassaro and Tyler Gratton scored back-to-back goals for Reading to put the Royals in front at 14:43, 5-4.

With 60 seconds remaining in regulation, Carson Golder buried a loose puck in Gahagen’s crease to tie the score, 6-6, and force overtime. 4:12 into the extra frame, Golder blasted a shot from the left face-off circle past Gahagen to capture the overtime win in the season series opener.

The Royals continue their three-game homestand with a two-game weekend series against the Indy Fuel which opens on Saturday, November 9th at 7:00 PM and concludes Sunday, November 10th at 3:00 PM.
