Reading, PA - The Reading Royals (6-10-3-0), proud ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers and Lehigh Valley Phantoms, fell to the Maine Mariners (5-9-0-0), 3-2, at Santander Arena on Saturday, November 23rd. Goaltender Vinnie Purpura (1-2-0) suffered the loss in goal with 22 saves on 25 shots faced. Mariners’ goaltender Nolan Maier (2-4-0) earned the win in goal with 25 saves on 27 shots faced.

BOX SCORE

Maine scored the game’s opening goal on their first of five power plays in the game. At 7:48 of the first period, Jimmy Lambert beat Purpura with a wrist shot from the left face-off circle for his third goal of the season and first of three points (1g-2a) in the game. Reading evened the score back up on Matt Brown’s first goal of the season at 9:33 with a wrist shot over Maier’s left shoulder, 1-1.

The Mariners restored their one-goal lead at 16:10 of the first period with a second-straight power play goal on Patrick Guay’s team-leading sixth goal of the season, 2-1.

Both teams lit the lamp in the second period with Sawyer Boulton netting his first professional career goal with a redirection past Maier on a shot by Matt Miller at 14:41. Boulton’s goal came just 25 seconds after Brooklyn Kalmikov scored the ultimate game-winning goal at 14:16 in the middle frame.

Maier saved all nine shots he faced from Reading’s offense in the third period to preserve Maine’s one-goal lead through the end of regulation.

The Royals open a two-game road series with the Adirondack Thunder on Friday, November 29th at 7:00 PM and Saturday, November 30th at 7:00 PM at Cool Insuring Arena.

The Royals return home on Saturday, December 7th to host Adirondack at 7:00 PM at Santander Arena. The promotional game is the Royals Military Appreciation & Teddy Bear Toss Night, presented by SolveIT Solutions.
