AuCoin, McMenamin Net Goals in Royals Loss to Thunder, 4-2

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals (5-8-2-0), proud ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers and Lehigh Valley Phantoms, fell to the Adirondack Thunder (6-1-0-1), 4-2, at Cool Insuring Arena on Saturday, November 16th. Goaltender Keith Petruzzelli (3-2-1) suffered the loss with 27 saves on 30 shots faced. Thunder goaltender Tyler Brennan (2-1-1-0) earned the win in goal with 24 saves on 26 shots faced.

BOX SCORE

After a scoreless first period, Adirondack jumped out to a 2-0 lead on first goals of the season for Andre Ghantous at 7:56 and Kurt Gosselin at 11:21. Parker AuCoin answered back for Reading 23 seconds later, at 11:44 to draw the game score back to a one-goal game, 2-1. AuCoin’s third goal of the season was assisted by Austin Master and Sam Sedley.

With 0.4 seconds remaining in the middle frame, Connor McMenamin redirected a blue line pass from Ryan Leibold past Brennan to tie the score before the intermission, 2-2. McMenamin’s fifth goal of the season was also assisted by Matt Miller.

The Thunder restored their lead at 8:53 with a power play goal after a slashing minor penalty was charged to Emile Chouinard. Gosselin beat Petruzzelli with a blast from the right face-off circle for his second goal of the game, 3-2.

Adirondack sealed the victory with an empty net goal by Ryan Smith at 19:35. The loss dropped Reading to 0-2 against Adirondack this season and 0-2-1 through the first three games of their five-game road stretch.

The Royals continue their five-game road stretch against Adirondack at Cool Insuring Arena on Sunday, November 17th at 3:00 PM.

The Royals return home on Friday, November 22nd to open a two-game home stint with the opener against the Norfolk Admirals at 7:00 PM at Santander Arena before the home stand finale against the Maine Mariners on Saturday, November 23rd at 7:00 PM at Santander Arena.
