Lake Superior State product completed regular season last weekend       

Reading, PA – The Reading Royals, proud ECHL Affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, have signed defenseman Kyle Chatham, Head Coach Kirk MacDonald announced Thursday.

Chatham is a 25-year-old defenseman and finished the regular season with Lake Superior State Saturday at Ferris State. In his final campaign, he registered one goal and six points in 35 contests.

The 6-foot-3, 196-lb. native of Belleville, IL is a right-handed shot and recorded five goals, 24 points and 46 penalty minutes over 146 NCAA games.

During a standout junior season, Chatham earned Lake Superior State’s Most Valuable Defenseman Award, blocked 52 shots and registered nine points (2g).

Prior to his NCAA career, Chatham won the USHL’s Clark Cup in 2012 with the Green Bay Gamblers. After being sidelined for 2012-13, he returned with Powell River in the BCHL and ripped in 15 points over 48 games.

Chatham’s older brother, Connor, is a defenseman for the Idaho Steelheads and was selected in the third round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft by the New Jersey Devils.

The Royals have seven active defensemen on the roster with Thursday’s signing. Reading plays the third of eight straight road games on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at Orlando

The team is next at home on Wed., Mar. 14 at 7:00 p.m. vs. Fort Wayne, with four players hosting a postgame photo and autograph session, courtesy of Rieck’s Printing.

The first 5,000 fans will receive a Yannick Tifu poster, courtesy of Rieck’s Printing and Diamond Credit Union. The Royals will wear special St. Patrick’s Day jerseys. Tifu captained Reading to the team’s first Kelly Cup in 2013 and played in 245 Royals games, third-most in team history. Tickets are available here.
