Reading, PA – The Reading Royals (win, 1-0-0-0) of the ECHL, affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League, defeated the Adirondack Thunder (loss, 0-1-0-0), 6-2, at Cool Insuring Arena in Glens Falls, New York, in the pre-season opener for both teams.

The Royals’ Chris McCarthy scored six minutes into the first period to give Reading a lead the team would never relinquish, as the team pulled away with four second period goals—including a pair of short-handed goals by Matt Wilkins (separated by only thirty-five seconds) and another pair by Adam Schmidt. McCarthy racked up his second of the game as well in the third period, when he was set up by power forward Tyler Brown, who notched three assists in the contest.

Both Adirondack goals came while the Thunder were playing with the man advantage, as Reading goaltender John Muse made 37 saves to register the win in his first appearance as a Royal.

The Royals take on the Adirondack Thunder in the back-end of the home-and-home pre-season series on Sunday (October 8) @ 4:00 pm at Santander Arena in Reading. Admission to the pre-season game in Reading is free of charge. Patrons are simply asked to make a donation of a non-perishable food item to the Greater Berks Food Bank when entering Santander Arena on Sunday afternoon.
