Royals Agree to Terms with Forward K.J. Tiefenwerth

Reading, PA – The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League, today announced that the team has agreed to terms with forward K.J. Tiefenwerth. He becomes the thirteenth player announced as signed by the Royals to a standard player’s contract for the 2017-18 season.

In addition to Tiefenwerth, Reading has also announced the signings of Chase Golighty (d), Michael Huntebrinker (f), Nick Luukko (d), Mark Naclerio (f), Ryan Penny (f), Sam Posa (d), Emil Romig (f), Matt Salhany (f), Adam Schmidt (f), Scott Tanski (f), Derek Whitmore (f), and Matt Wilkins (f).

Tiefenwerth (5’9 / 171) (25), who hails from Bellmore, New York, will be entering his first season of professional play. Last year, he registered eighteen points (3g-15a) and twenty-penalty minutes in his senior season at Quinnipiac University. A four-time selection to the ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team, Tiefenwerth was an integral member of the 2016 Bobcats team that won the ECAC playoff championship and advanced all the way to the NCAA national championship game before getting knocked off in the finals by the University of North Dakota. Tiefenwerth began his collegiate career at UMass-Amherst where he was chosen as the Hockey-East Rookie of the Week in December of 2012 before transferring to Quinnipiac where he completed his three remaining seasons of collegiate eligibility. In 132 total college games, Tiefenwerth registered forty-nine points (12g-37a) and forty-six penalty minutes.
