Justin Crandall Selected Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week

Reading, PA – The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League, today announced that forward Justin Crandall has been selected the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for December 26, 2016 – January 1, 2017. In three wins for the Royals this past week, Crandall scored two goals, assisted on six others (eight points) and played to a plus-6 (+6).

Crandall, a second year pro from Lakeville, Minnesota, began the week by recording a pair of assists, including one on the game winner, in Reading’s 5-0 win on Wednesday over the Elmira Jackals. Crandall followed that up by scoring the game’s first goal—as well as the team’s second—in Friday’s 4-2 win over the Wheeling Nailers on Friday. He topped off the week with his second four point performance in just over a week, racking up four assists, including the primary helper on the game winner, in Saturday’s 5-2 win in Glens Falls, New York, over the Adirondack Thunder.

Crandall is currently third on the team with twenty-six points (10g-16a) in twenty-five games with the Royals. He leads the team in plus-minus at plus-14 (+14). In his last seventeen games, Crandall has notched twenty-three points (9g-14a) and played to a plus-17 (+17). Crandall has racked up multi-point performances in each of his last four consecutive games, which included registering the Royals’ first hattrick performance of the season (3g-1a) on Friday, December 23, against the Adirondack Thunder.

This marks the nineteenth time in the sixteen year history of the Royals that one of the team’s players has been named as the ECHL Player of the Week. Crandall joins sixteen other skaters who have won the award including Chris Blight, Brendan Brooks, Ryan Cruthers, Stefano Giliati (twice), Ben Gordon (twice), Kevin Goumas, Greg Hogeboom, Ryan Kinasewich, Olivier Labelle, Brian McCullough, Mike Pandolfo, Yannick Riendeau, Andrew Sarauer, Daniel Steiner, Shay Stephenson, and Sean Wiles.

On behalf of Crandall, a case of pucks will be donated to a Reading youth hockey organization by Sher-Wood Hockey, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, Sher-Wood Hockey has donated more than 35,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.
