Reading, PA – The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League, today announced that the team has acquired defenseman Greg Amlong from the Wichita Thunder of the ECHL for future considerations.
Amlong, (6’2/211) (24), a first year pro from O’Fallon, Missouri, played one game for the Thunder this season without registering any points or penalty minutes. Last year, after completing his senior season at the Rochester Institute of Technology, he played five games for the Greenville Swamp Rabbits of the ECHL and picked up an assist and two penalty minutes. In his senior year at RIT, Amlong tied for the team lead in scoring amongst defensemen with twenty-one points (4g-17a) in thirty-six games as the Tigers won the Atlantic Hockey Championship—and advanced to the NCAA Division I Men’s Hockey Tournament—for the second straight year. Amlong, who played his first two seasons of college hockey at the UMass-Lowell, had 36 points (8g-28a) and forty penalty minutes in 105 total college games.
The Royals return to action tomorrow (Thursday, October 20 @ 7:05 pm) when the team travels to WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, West Virginia, to take on the Wheeling Nailers. Please note that there will be no BCTV coverage of tomorrow’s game because of the annual Octoberfest Auction for the station. Fans can catch all of the action, however, on the free digital streaming service, iHeartRadio at Rumba 1340 in Reading.
