Royals Sign Forward Austin Farley

Reading, PA – The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League, today announced that the team has signed forward Austin Farley to an ECHL Standard Players Contract. In a separate transaction also undertaken today, forward Joey Sides was released from his ECHL SPC. In another transaction previously completed, goaltender Matt Skoff was also released from his ECHL SPC.

Farley (5’8/179) (22) (Niles, IL), who recently completed his senior season at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, was signed to an Amateur Tryout Agreement by the Lake Erie Monsters of the American Hockey League, where he played two games without registering any points or penalty minutes prior to being released from his ATO. A former teammate of the Royals’ Justin Crandall and Derik Johnson, Farley was tied for the team lead this past season in goals scored (15) and was second in scoring (34 points) for UMD, who earned a spot in the NCAA post-season tournament for the third time in the last four years. At the conclusion of this past season, Farley, who served as an alternate captain for the Bulldogs, received the UMD Fan Favorite Award. In 144 total college games, Farley racked up 106 points (46g-60a) and 109 penalty minutes.
