Royals Sign Forward Jonathan Parker

Reading, PA – The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers of the NHL, today announced that the team has agreed to terms with forward Jonathan Parker. The Royals have announced twelve players as signed to ECHL Standard Players Contracts for the 2015-16 season. In addition to Parker, Reading has announced the signing of forwards Adam Berkle, Justin Crandall, Robbie Czarnik, Mike Pereira, Joe Rehkamp, Cam Reid, and Ian Watters and defensemen Jordan Heywood, Derik Johnson, Curtis Leonard and Sam Windle.

Last season, Parker (5’11/205) (23), who hails from Solana Beach, CA, registered twenty-six points (10g-16a) in twenty-seven games for the Colorado Eagles of the ECHL before being traded to the Indy Fuel on January 8, 2015. Parker actually led the Eagles in points per game average and was second on the team in overall scoring when he was traded to the Fuel. However, he played only two games for Indy (0g-0a) before his season was cut short due to injury. Reading acquired the rights to Parker on June 16, 2015, as completion of the future considerations element of the trade that sent defenseman Dan Ford to the Indy Fuel on November 27, 2014.

Parker, who will be entering his fifth season of pro, has played a total of 159 pro games, eighty-three in the ECHL where he has racked up a total of sixty-seven points (27g-40a). Parker, who signed an entry level deal with the Buffalo Sabres in October of 2011, has played seventy-six games in the American Hockey League (6g-6a=12pts, 17 PIMs)—all with the Rochester Americans. Prior to turning pro, Parker had a breakout season in 2010-11 with the Prince Albert Raiders of the WHL, where he led the team with forty-five goals and eighty six points in seventy-one games. In 205 career games in major junior, Parker racked up 155 points (77g-78a) and 140 penalty minutes.

The Fifteenth Season of Royals’ hockey kicks off with back-to-back games against the South Carolina Stingrays at North Charleston Coliseum on Saturday (October 17) and Sunday (October 18). Reading then opens the home portion of the team’s schedule on Saturday, October 24, (7:00 pm) when the Elmira Jackals visit Santander Arena.
