Royals Acquire ECHL Rights to Forward Kyle Bodie

Royals Acquire ECHL Rights to Forward Kyle Bodie

Reading, PA – The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers of the NHL and the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the AHL, today announced that the team has acquired the ECHL rights to forward Kyle Bodie as completion of the future considerations element of the trade that sent defenseman Bobby Shea from Reading to the Toledo Walleye of the ECHL on October 16, 2013.

Bodie (6’0/189) (26), who hails from East St. Paul, Manitoba, will be entering his second year of pro. He split his rookie season between four teams in the ECHL, starting the year with the Cincinnati Cyclones where he recorded two points (1g-1a) in seven games before being traded to the San Francisco Bulls on November 13, 2013. Bodie scored one goal in nine games with the Bulls before being traded to the South Carolina Stingrays on December 11, 2013. He registered ten points (4g-6a) in twenty-eight games for the Stingrays before being released in mid-March. The Walleye claimed Bodie from ECHL waivers on March 18, 2014. He completed the season in Toledo recording three assists in thirteen games.

Bodie turned pro after a four year career at Union College, where he was part of a program that won back-to-back ECAC championships and earned a bid in the NCAA tournament in his final three seasons at the school. Bodie, who was a two-time recipient of the Coaches’ Award at Union, twice led the Dutchmen in assists and, in his senior season, was second in overall scoring with thirty-three points (9g-24a) in forty games. An alternate captain in his senior year, Bodie registered eighty-five points (28g-57a) and seventy penalty minutes in 122 total games at Union.
