Goaltender Carsen Chubak Loaned by Adirondack to Reading

Goaltender Carsen Chubak Loaned by Adirondack to Reading

Reading, PA – The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League and the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League, today announced that goaltender Carsen Chubak (“CHEW  bak”) has been loaned by the Adirondack Phantoms of the AHL to Reading. In another transaction undertaken today, the Royals traded goaltender Josh Watson to the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL for future considerations.

Chubak (5’11/179) (24), a first year pro from Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, began the season with the Greenville Road Warriors of the ECHL, where he went 1-1-0-0 with a 3.50 goals against average and .894 save percentage prior to being recalled to Adirondack. While with the Phantoms, Chubak appeared in two games and went 1-0-0-0 with a 1.32 GAA and .964 save percentage. In his most recent action, Chubak made 38 saves in 3-1 win over the Providence Bruins on December 28, 2013.

Prior to turning pro, Chuback had a record setting junior season at Niagara University. In leading the Purple Eagles to an AHA regular season championship and an at-large berth in the NCAA Tournament, Chubak went 23-7-5 with a league leading 1.91 GAA and .939 save percentage. Chubak, who at one point set a school mark by playing 258:32 of consecutive shutout hockey, tied for the nation-wide lead with six total shutouts. Twice selected as the AHA Goaltender of the Month and an eight-time AHA Goaltender of the Week honoree, Chubak was named the AHA Player of the Year at the conclusion of last season. Chubak, who was a top ten finalist for the Hobey Baker Award which is bestowed on the nation’s best college hockey player, was selected as Niagara’s Most Valuable Player and Most Improved Player and received the Dr. John Marshall Award as the team’s most dedicated player at Niagara’s end of season awards banquet. Watson appeared in two games for the Royals, going 1-0-0-0 with a 2.33 GAA and .906 save percentage.

The Royals return to action on Friday (January 17 @ 7:05 pm) when the Toledo Walleye visit Santander Arena in Reading, Pennsylvania. The Royals will induct Chris Bala into the Reading Eagle Wall of Honor that night, and the first 3000 fans will receive a commemorative poster of Chris courtesy of the Reading Eagle.
