Reading, PA – The Reading Royals of the ECHL today announced the team’s 2013-14 Promotional Schedule of Game Night Events and Special Giveaways. The home portion of Lucky Season Number Thirteen in Reading kicks off with a block party celebration of the Royals’ 2013 Kelly Cup Championship and concludes thirty-six home games later with Fan Appreciation Night—when some lucky fan will win a Caribbean Trip courtesy of Boscov’s Travel and Apple Vacations and another fan will have a chance to win $10,000.00 in the brand new “Saturday Night Shoot for Cash” Finale presented by Diamond Credit Union. In between, the game night promotions for the Royals have a little bit of something for everyone, including a trophy-case worth of memorabilia celebrating last season’s Kelly Cup Championship. The complete 2013-14 Promotional Calendar (which is subject to change) is set out below.
Opening Weekend heats up in the afternoon of Saturday, October 19, 2013, with a Pre-Game Kelly Cup Championship Block Party in front of the Sovereign Center, which kicks off at 4:00 pm, three-and-a-half hours before the scheduled 7:35 opening faceoff. Fans can park for just $2.00 courtesy of the Reading Parking Authority and take in the entertainment, energy and excitement of the block party as preparation for the unveiling of the Royals’ Championship Banner, which will take place in a ceremony immediately prior to the team’s match-up against the South Carolina Stingrays. The first 5,000 fans inside the Sovereign Center on Opening Night will get a chance to raise their own ‘mini’ Championship Banner, which will be given out courtesy of Reading Health System. On Opening Night, the Royals will also wear a specially designed, commemorative Kelly Cup Championship jersey that will be used throughout the season for game night raffles.
In addition to the many festivities that will fuel the fun on Opening Night, the Royals will also kick off the brand new ‘Saturday Night Shoot for Cash’ promotion which will be held during the first intermission in each of the twelve Saturday night home games this season. Each Saturday, Diamond Credit Union and the Royals will choose one fan who will come out onto the ice and take his or her best shot from the center face-off dot for a chance to win a cash prize and qualify for a grand finale shootout during the final home game of the season. Fans can sign up to participate in the ‘Saturday Night Shoot for Cash’ at Royals’ games or at any Diamond Credit Union location in the Greater Reading region. In the SNSC Finale, on April 5, 2014, the finalists will take the big shot for the even bigger money—and one fan could walk away with $10,000 and show us all how to celebrate a big goal.
Of course, that won’t be the only $10,000 cash prize that the Royals will try to give away this year, as the team will once again host St. Hat Trick’s Night presented by the Reading Eagle on March 15, 2014. All it takes that night is for one of the Royals to bag three measly goals and some lucky fan will walk away with a bag of cash (or at least a pretty sizeable check)…and don’t tell us that it’ll never happen—because it can…and has…twice in team history.
The festivities of Opening Weekend will continue on Sunday, October 20, 2013 (4:05 pm) with the first of what will be seven home games on Sunday afternoon this season; and, as with years past, Sundays are Kids Days at the Sovereign Center, which will feature Berks Packing Dollar Day Specials ($1.00 hot dogs, nachos, popcorn, and soda) and will always include a special event and/or giveaway for kids of all ages. For the first Sunday of the season, fans will not only get the ever popular Schedule Magnet courtesy of Deibler Dental, but also can also bring their skates to participate in the first of what will be three post-game skates with the players (October 20, February 9, and March 16) this season presented by the Body Zone Sports and Wellness Complex.
Other special Sunday giveaways for the kids this season include a Kelly Cup-shaped toothbrush holder (courtesy of Deibler Dental), a Zamboni Bank (courtesy of Metro Bank), and a drawstring carry bag (courtesy of V&M Towing). And we don’t want to leave out our more ‘mature’ fans on Kids Day, either. In fact, in our annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Kids’ Day Game on Monday, January 20 (1:05 pm), fans 55 years of age and older will get a gym bag courtesy of Reading Health System. And, it’s a safe bet that kids young and old will enjoy the shenanigans of the Zooperstars, the comically costumed pranksters, who will invade the Sovereign Center for two separate Kids Day performances this season (Sunday, November 10; and Sunday, March 9).
Perhaps most importantly, Lucky Season Thirteen will continue the Royals’ tradition of raising funds and awareness for charitable organizations throughout our community. The good works start early this year, in the third home game of the season (Saturday, October 26) when the Royals will host Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County Awareness Night, and the first 1,500 women in attendance will give a Kelly Cup Championship Tote Bag courtesy of Reading Health System. The Royals will get a second chance to help our friends at BCSS of Berks County (and remain ‘perfect in pink’) in our annual Pink in the Rink celebration presented by Sweet Street Desserts on Saturday, February 15, when the first 1,500 women will get a pink baseball cap. After the PIR game, everyone will have a chance to help out in the continuing quest to wipe out breast cancer in our lifetime by bidding on the special pink-themed jerseys which the Royals will wear that night.
The first special jersey that will be auctioned for charity this season will worn by the team in our Veteran and Military Organizations Night on Saturday, November 2. The special sweaters that night, which are presented by Classic Harley-Davidson, will feature unique sublimated images paying homage to our country’s service men and women. The first 2,000 fans in attendance that night (fifteen and older) will receive an adult camouflaged-styled Royals’ jersey courtesy of V&M Towing, but that shouldn’t dampen the enthusiasm for bidding on the ‘real things’ which will be worn by the team that night.
On Saturday, January 18, the Royals will also slip on special sweaters with a decided dark blue and white simplicity as the team continues the recent tradition of joining forces with the Berks County Alumni Association of Penn State University to raise funds for the world’s largest student-run philanthropy, THON. That game will also be one of three nights this season when we all roll up our sleeves, tighten our fists (grit our teeth) and make a donation to the Miller-Keystone Blood Drive. The organization’s charitable efforts will continue all the way through the second to last home game of the year (Friday April 4) when the Royals will host the team’s annual American Cancer Society Night. During that game, we’ll raise awareness for the continuing effort to cure cancer, and the first 2000 fans (15 and older) will receive a white Royals-ACS t-shirt courtesy of Reading Health System.
This season, the Royals will also get into the spooky spirit on Halloween Eve (Wednesday, October 30) with a special jersey that might not be surprising—but could be a bit shocking—as the players will don bright orange and black jerseys with the hope of ‘tricking’ the opposition and ‘treating’ the home crowd. Those jerseys will be available for purchase through the Royals’ online store immediately following that night’s game. And, oh yeah, before we get too far from the theme of bringing a little friendly fright to the Sovereign Center, on Saturday, February 8, we’ll welcome pro wrestling legend George ‘The Animal’ Steele, who will bring his inimical brand of the rough and tumble to help out our fine, furry friends as the Royals honor the Animal Rescue League of Berks County.
As noted above, this season, Royals’ fans will get a chance to build quite a collection of championship memorabilia, as no fewer than nine giveaways will pay homage to last year’s miraculous playoff run, including (i) the mini-championship banner (Opening Night) courtesy of Reading Health System; (ii) a championship tote bag (for women—courtesy of Reading Health System) on October 26; (iii) and (iv) two separate championship t-shirts (courtesy of National Penn Bank) on October 30 and November 27; (v) a championship flag (courtesy of Metro Bank) on November 29; (vi) a Yannick Tifu Kelly Cup Bobblehead (courtesy of V&M Towing) on December 7; (vii) a championship holiday ornament (courtesy of Toys for Tots) on December 14; (viii) an 8”x10” canvas championship team picture (courtesy of Stankiewicz Construction) on December 27; and (ix) a Kelly Cup toothbrush holder (for kids 14 and under—courtesy of Deibler Dental) on February 9.
In addition to filling up our fans’ personal Royals’ trophy cases, we also want to make sure our supporters’ stomachs are satisfied. In that regard, the Royals will offer two brand new food and ticket special offers this season. Every Wednesday, fans can partake in the Steak-Umm Burger Meal and Ticket Deal, when $20.00 will not only get you admission to the game, but also a burger, fries and large soda. Season ticket holders can also purchase this deal for $9.00 through the Royals Front Office or the VF Outlet Box Office.
Also, for each Friday night game, the team will offer the Mama Lucia Royal Feast Friday, when $25.00 gets you a ticket to the game and an all-u-can-eat buffet of meatball sandwiches, hot dogs, macaroni salad, potato salad, chips, pretzels, cookies, and your choice of lemonade or ice tea—all of which will be served in “The Corner” below Section 109 inside the Sovereign Center. Season ticket holders also have the luxury of purchasing this deal for $14 through the front office or box office. Please note that fans must purchase their Mama Lucia Royal Feast Friday ticket by 12:00 noon on the Thursday before the game. More information on the Royals food and ticket specials can be obtained by calling the Royals office at 610-898-7825.
