Royals Announce 2012-13 Promotional Calendar

Reading’s ‘New Beginning’ Promises a Season Packed Full of Special Events and Giveaways

Reading, PA – The Reading Royals of the ECHL today announced the team’s 2012-13 Promotional Schedule of Game Night Events and Special Giveaways. In the twelfth year of Royals hockey, the organization will celebrate ‘A New Beginning’ presented by Steve Moyer Subaru with a season packed full of special events and giveaways, as the team honors a number of traditional fan favorites, while giving several promotions a ‘new beginning’. All thirty-six home games this season for the Royals will feature a special event, and the organization and its partners will present some twenty-five home games this year with giveaways or contests. The full 2012-13 Game Night Promotional Events and Special Giveaways calendar is set out below. Please also note that additional promotional events and giveaways are expected to be added as the season progresses. This year’s ‘New Beginning’ kicks off with what might be one of the most action-packed days in Royals’ hockey history on Saturday, October 13—when the Trenton Titans visit the Sovereign Center. Things ‘hit the street running’ at 4:00 pm with food, music & pre-game cheer at the Purple on Penn Street Pre-Game Party right out in front of the Sovereign Center. When the doors to the arena open up, fans will be greeted with a couple of exciting giveaways, including the Royals – Hershey Bears ‘New Beginning’ T-Shirt courtesy of Capital BlueCross for the first 2,500 fans 18 and older; and a 32 oz. ‘re-fillable’ plastic cup for the first 5,000 fans courtesy of Diamond Credit Union. Even after the hockey action ends that evening, there’s still more, as Royals fans are invited to cap the home-opener off with a post-game Meet & Greet party at the Outside – In (6th and Penn Street, Second Floor), where hopefully fans will be congratulating the members of the team on living up to our other season motto….(i.e. ‘there’s no place like home….’). All this—and parking’s just $2.00 courtesy of the Reading Parking Authority. At the risk of incurring the wrath of Ben Bernanke with some ‘irrational exuberance,’ the Royals second home game of the year—on Sunday, October 21 against the Wheeling Nailers—may be the second most action-packed day in Royals hockey history. First of all, this Sunday match-up—as with all seven Sunday home games this year—is the best family deal in town featuring our Berks Packing Dollar Day when hot dogs, popcorn, soda and nachos at the Sovereign Center are just $1.00. But out first Sunday game of the season also gives Royals fans a chance to bag their own little hattrick of giveaways: (i) the ever-popular schedule magnet courtesy of Deibler Dental (first 3,500); (ii) a team poster courtesy of the Reading Eagle (first 5,000); and (iii) the ‘refillable’ 32 oz. plastic cup (first 5,000) courtesy of Diamond Credit Union. This special Sunday game day will wind down with a post-game autograph session with the players. As a lion in the jungle, we understand it’s good to be king—but it’s also not too bad to be a kid—particularly on Sundays with the Royals this year. The youngsters will be the beneficiary of a number of exciting and unique giveaways, including a Royals jersey toothbrush holder (first 1,000 – 14 & under) courtesy of Deibler Dental on Sunday, February 10, when we’ll also host the Battle of the Badges VIII game presented by FirstStates Financial; and a Royals School Notebook (first 1,000 – 14 & under) courtesy of Berks Schuylkill Oil Heat Association on Sunday, February 24. And Sunday home games always wind down with a special event for kids of all ages, featuring either a post-game autograph session (October 21, January 27, and February 24) or a ‘Bring Your Own Skates Post-Game Skate with the Players (October 28, January 6 and February 10) presented by the Body Zone Sports & Wellness Complex. For the sixth consecutive season, kids will also get a day all of their own— in our annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday game at 1:05 pm on Monday, January 21. But it’s not just the kids who will love that day because moms and dads are going to love it, too, particularly in light of our special ticket offer which gets you two FREE youth tickets (14 & younger) for every adult ticket purchased. And to make it even easier to get in and out with a smile on your face that day, parking is only $2.00 for the Kids Day Matinee courtesy of the Reading Parking Authority. As with seasons past, the Royals will seek to honor some of the more important people in our community this year, starting with our military veterans who will get a weekend’s worth of games devoted to honoring their commitment to our nation. The Veterans’ Weekend extravaganza kicks off with Veterans Night on Saturday, November 10, when the first 2,000 fans 15 and older will receive a Royals camouflage jersey courtesy of V&M Towing, while the team itself will wear red, white and blue flag-inspired jerseys in their game against the Trenton Titans. The Royals will wear those same jerseys the next day—on Sunday, November 11—and they will be auctioned after that game to raise funds for local veterans causes. That day, the first 1,000 kids 14 and under will receive their own version of the Royals camouflage jersey courtesy of V&M Towing. The Royals will also continue our tradition of honoring persons who have made significant contributions to our organization—if not all of hockey. And who better to honor this season than former Royal goaltender Jonathan Quick who, of course, not only won the Stanley Cup last season as a member of the Los Angeles Kings but was also honored with the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player in the NHL playoffs. The ‘Year of Quick’ will kick off on Sunday, October 28, when the first 1,000 kids 14 and under will get a Jon Quick t-shirt courtesy of Metro Bank. On Saturday, November 3, it’s the adults (first 2,000 – 15 & older) who will get their Metro Bank Quickie t-shirt. On Saturday, January 19, 2013, Jonnie Q. will become the sixth former Royals’ player inducted into the Reading Eagle Wall of Honor; and, that night, the first 5,000 fans will receive the Jon Quick Commemorative Poster courtesy of the Reading Eagle. And if all that doesn’t put you on Jon Quick overload, on January 18, 2013 in the Royals match-up against the Cincinnati Cyclones, you can win a trip to the Kings game at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. when the reigning Stanley Cup Champions will face the Royals newest NHL affiliate, the Washington Capitals—provided of course that we have NHL hockey this year. But even if we don’t get an NHL and that league’s version of the ‘winter classic,’ on Friday, December 28, when the Royals face the Trenton Titans, you could win an opportunity to see an outside hockey game that we’re pretty confident will take place—when the Royals AHL affiliate Hershey Bears will face the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at Hersheypark Stadium (on Sunday, January 20). If you would prefer to win a trip to a bit warmer climate, shoot for the Royals contest on Friday, December 14 when the team takes on the Fort Wayne Komets, during which some lucky fan will win a trip to see the team play for the first time ever in Orlando, Florida. Or better yet, at the Royals game on Saturday, January 26, you could win a trip to Las Vegas, Nevada, and pay for those season tickets with one roll of the dice (or come home with your hat in your hand)—all courtesy of the Royals official travel center, Boscov’s Travel and Apple Vacations. We expect that the Royals and our fans will be in a festive mood during the holidays this season, starting on Black Friday (November 23) when the team will help everyone with their post-feast L-tryptophan blues by hosting the ‘I Hate Turkey’ Pizza Shoot courtesy of Little Caesars. And if that doesn’t get your food frustrations out, the Royals will also host a ham shoot presented by Berks Packing on Union Night (Saturday, December 22); and mollusks aren’t safe either, as the team will host a post-game clam shoot (of all things) presented by the Seafood Shanty (on Friday, March 8)—the weirdness of which might be appropriate since we’ll be celebrating Slapshot’s birthday that night with Mascot Mania presented by the Miller Law Group. To add just a little sanity to that evening, Perfetto Insurance Agency will give away a travel mug giveaway for the first 1,000 fans 18 and older. The day after our Black Friday game, on Saturday, November 24, the Royals will help everyone make a quick transition to the winter holidays when the team gives out a purple Santa’s hat to the first 1,500 adults 18 years and older, while helping the US Marines collect new, unwrapped toys for the Toys for Tots program, which will also sponsor our annual Teddy Bear Toss on Saturday, December 15. And as a token of our holiday appreciation for our fans that night, the Royals will also give the first 1,500 fans 18 and older a holiday ornament so you can remember us while you’re un-wrapping your other treasures under your tree. Another one of the Royals—and our fans—favorite holidays comes later in the spring when we all think GREEN—as in green-backs—in our annual St. Hattrick’s Day game which is set for Saturday, March 16, when the Cincinnati Cyclones come to town and the team seeks to give away $10,000 for the third time in six years—all we need to do is coax another timely hattrick out of one our skill guys. Even if you don’t win the 10 Grand, the first 2,500 fans will receive a Royals hat that night courtesy of Quadrant/Lasting Image Promotional Products. Speaking of traditions of success, the Royals will once again seek to put the power of pink to work on Saturday, February 16, when we try to keep our unblemished perfect in pink record in tack with our sixth consecutive win in the Pink in the Rink Celebration presented by Sweet Street Desserts. Consistent with seasons past, we’ll also seek to raise money for Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County that night when we auction off those (hopefully) still perfectly pink jerseys worn by the boys that night. The Royals will support a bunch of other important causes this season, as well, including the largest student run philanthropy in the world: Penn State University’s THON program which is dedicated to eradicating childhood cancer (on Saturday, January 5); and the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life (Friday, March 15), when the first 2,500 fans will get the ever-popular trading card set courtesy of Rieck’s printing. And, of course, it wouldn’t be a Royals season if we didn’t at least in part celebrate…wait for it…beer. Yes, once again the Royals will give away our four-part Plastic Pint Glass Series, which you can fill with $4.00 special draft beer on each of those nights courtesy of All-Star Distributing. And just to get the easiest cheer in the house, we should also mention that we will have several of our ever popular $2.50 beer nights at the Sovereign Center this season as well. We’ll close out the promotional schedule—and our regular season—by celebrating our most important asset...our fans with Fan Appreciation Night on Saturday, March 30, when the Elmira Jackals come to town. We’ll be happy to greet the dreaded Jackals that night with a storm of Rally Towels (first 5,000 fans) courtesy of Habitat for Humanity. There will be at least one giveaway at every stoppage in play that night—and someone might end the regular season by driving off in a brand new car courtesy of Diamond Credit Union. The Royals current list of 2012-13 Game Night Promotional Events and Special Giveaways is set out below. More information on the contests described in this release will be forthcoming at more relevant dates. Please note that this promotional schedule is subject to change.
