Reading, PA - The Reading Royals, proud ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers and Lehigh Valley Phantoms, announced that defensemen Luke Reid and Austin Mourar have signed with the club for the 2026-27 season.

Reid, 24, is entering his second-full professional season following a 60-game campaign with Adirondack where he registered 19 points (3g-16a) and a +7 rating. Selected in the sixth round, 166th overall, by the Nashville Predators in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, the Warman, Saskatchewan native has logged 21 points (4g-17a) across 66 ECHL career games and added two Kelly Cup Playoff career games with Adirondack in 2026.

Additionally, Reid played in five American Hockey League (AHL) career games with the Utica Comets in spring of 2025 where he recorded two assists.

Prior to his professional career, the 6'0", 192-pound, right-shot blue-liner played five seasons at the University of New Hampshire where he totaled 49 points (8g-41a) and 72 penalty minutes across 162 NCAA career games, playing in every game for the Wildcats while finishing in the top three in blocked shots from 2021 to 2025.

Prior to college, Reid played two seasons with the United States Hockey League’s Chicago Steel where he amassed 38 points in 105 games won the USHL Anderson Cup (regular season championship) in 2019-20.

Internationally, Reid was named to the U.S. Junior Select Team for World Junior A Challenge who won a Bronze Medal in 2019, skated on the U.S. Under-18 Men's Select Team that placed fourth at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada in 2018, as well as suited up for Canada's Team Black at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge where he was teammates with former Royals Massimo Rizzo, Tag Bertuzzi and Nolan Maier in 2017.

Mourar, 26, is entering his second professional season following a 15 point (5g-10a) in 30-game campaign with Courchevel-Méribel-Pralognan in the French ice hockey league Division 1 (the second tier of French ice hockey overall, under the Magnus League). The 6'2", 216-pound, right-shot blue-liner added a goal in one French Cup game.

A native of Spring City, Pennsylvania (40 min. drive from Santander Arena), Mourar has been a coach and instructor within the Reading Royals Youth Hockey Association, including the RRYHA's travel program, the Reading Junior Royals, since 2024.

"I am excited for the opportunity to be close to home as a Royal this upcoming season," stated Mourar. "It means a lot to be play at the level many of the youth hockey players I help instruct in the RRYHA program strive to reach."

"Austin is a player who continues to keep getting better every single year,” stated Peters. "He just finished his first year pro and is looking to build off of that. Being a local kid, it makes it a little extra special bringing him in.”

Prior to his professional career, the 6'2", 216-pound, right-shot blue-liner was a three-time NCAA D-III National Champion over five seasons at Hobart College where he logged 74 points (31g-43a) across 118 career games and accrued the following accolades: 2025 CCM/AHCA All-American East first team, 2024 NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player, as well as 2023 and 2024 NCAA All-Tournament. Mourar was top three on the team in blocked shots each of his last three NCAA seasons and, in the 2024-25 campaign, he both led the team with 21 blocked shots and tied for 10th in the nation in power-play goals (6).

Home Opener:

The Royals player their home opener at Santander Arena on Saturday, October 24 at 7:00 p.m. against Kalamazoo. The home opener opens a two-game series with the Wings which concludes on Sunday, October 25 at 3:00 p.m. The Royals hoist a record of 9-11-1-3 in home openers with their last home opener victory coming against the Norfolk Admirals, 6-4, on October 23 of the 2021-22 season.
