Royals Add Jake Garwood, MS, ATC, NREMT as Athletic Trainer

Reading, PA – The Reading Royals, proud ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers and Lehigh Valley Phantoms, announced that Jake Garwood, MS, LAT ATC, NREMT will serve as the team’s new head athletic trainer.

Garwood, a native of LaPorte, Indiana, will manage all matters related to the athletic training and medical treatment of the team’s players. Garwood’s services are provided through St. Luke’s University Health Network and will begin immediately.

“I want to thank the entire Reading Royals organization, and the St. Luke’s Sports Medicine Relations department for giving me the opportunity to be a part of this team and franchise," stated Garwood. “I also want to show my appreciation for the Purdue University Athletic Training program for giving me incredible experience that has paved the way for my job with the Royals. I value my position and am going to try my hardest to help keep our players healthy, prepared, and performing at their best so we can compete at the highest level possible”

I have full confidence in his professional ability and I am excited to add his passion and drive to our culture. A graduate of Indiana University with a Bachelor of Kinesiology and Exercise Science, as well as a Master of Science Degree in Athletic Training from Purdue University, Garwood brings clinical experience garnered in high school, collegiate, tactical, industrial and professional environments. Additionally, Garwood completed a nine month long immersive internship with the Indy Fuel.

Home Opener:

The Royals player their home opener at Santander Arena on Saturday, October 24 at 7:00 p.m. against Kalamazoo. The home opener opens a two-game series with the Wings which concludes on Sunday, October 25 at 3:00 p.m. The Royals hoist a record of 9-11-1-3 in home openers with their last home opener victory coming against the Norfolk Admirals, 6-4, on October 23 of the 2021-22 season.

Fans can secure their seat for Opening Night today with a Royals ticket plan. The Royals offer plans ranging from as low as 4 games all the way up to our full season Royals365 Membership.

About the Royals

The Reading Royals, proud affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers and Lehigh Valley Phantoms, are entering their 25th season in the ECHL.
