Reading, PA - The Reading Royals (10-15-4-0), proud ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers and Lehigh Valley Phantoms, defeated the Worcester Railers (10-16-1-2), 2-1, at Santander Arena on Friday, December 27th. Goaltender Vinnie Purpura (4-2-0-0) earned the win in goal with 31 saves on 32 shots faced. Railers’ goaltender Michael Bullion (4-9-0-1) suffered the loss with 29 saves on 31 shots faced.

BOX SCORE

After a scoreless first period, Shane Sellar broke the ice 12 seconds into the middle frame to give Reading a 1-0 lead. Sellar extended Reading’s lead to two goals with a wrist shot past Bullion at 8:17. The multi-goal game was the fifth of Sellar’s pro career and first of the season.

Todd Skirving earned secondary assists on both goals while Kenny Johnson and Gianfranco Cassaro earned the primary helpers, respectively.

Anthony Repaci drew the game back to a one-goal score for Worcester with a power play goal 1:02 into the third period. The power play goal was the Railers Captain’s team-leading sixth on the man-advantage and 19th overall of the season.

Purpura turned aside the remaining 12 shots he faced in the third period from the Railers offense, including six faced within the final 3:02 of play with an extra Railers’ attacker on the ice during a 6-on-5.

The Royals conclude a two-game series with the Worcester Railers at the DCU Center on Saturday, December 28th at 6:05 PM.

The Royals return home to host the Trois-Rivières Lions for a three-game series on Friday, January 10th and Saturday, January 11th at 7 PM, as well as Sunday, January 12th at 3 PM. The home games feature the 'Fans Pick the Music Night,' Star Wars Night, and Puck N' Pancakes promotional games, respectively.
