Reading, PA - The Reading Royals (7-10-3-0), proud ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers and Lehigh Valley Phantoms, defeated the Adirondack Thunder (7-7-0-1), 3-1, at Cool Insuring Arena on Friday, November 29th. Goaltender Keith Petruzzelli (4-3-2-0) earned the win in goal with 31 saves on 32 shots faced. Thunder goaltender Jeremy Brodeur (5-3-0-0) suffered the loss in goal with 17 saves on 19 shots faced.
Matt Brown earned Reading the game’s opening goal off of a behind-the-net pass from Jake Smith at 12:25 of the first period. Brown beat Brodeur through the pads for his second goal of the season to put Reading in front before Smith scored a goal of his own with a wrist shot over Brodeur’s glove at 15:14. The unassisted goal established a multi-point game for Smith and two-goal lead for Reading, 2-0.
Brendan Less answered back for Adirondack with a power play goal at 18:10 of the first period. Kevin O’Neil and Andre Ghantous assisted on the goal, which was good for Less’ first point of the season and third pro career goal, all three coming against the Royals.
The 2-1 lead for Reading stood through a scoreless second period and 18:30 of the third period before Ryan Leibold buried an empty net shot from the red line to net his third goal of the season and seal the road win for Reading.
The Royals conclude a two-game road series with Adirondack on Saturday, November 30th at 7:00 PM at Cool Insuring Arena.
The Royals return home on Saturday, December 7th to host Adirondack at 7:00 PM at Santander Arena. The promotional game is the Royals Military Appreciation & Teddy Bear Toss Night, presented by SolveIT Solutions.
