Sellar Nets Lone Goal in Royals Loss to Thunder, 3-1

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals (5-7-2), proud ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers and Lehigh Valley Phantoms, fell to the Adirondack Thunder (5-1-0-1), 3-1, at Cool Insuring Arena on Friday, November 15th. Goaltender Parker Gahagen (2-5-1) suffered the loss with 35 saves on 27 shots faced. Thunder goaltender Jeremy Brodeur (4-0-0) earned the win in goal with 18 saves on 19 shots faced.

Reading scored the game’s opening goal 13:13 into the first period on a deflection by Shane Sellar on a Powell Connor blast from the blue line. Robbie Stucker earned his third assist in two games on Sellar’s first goal of the season, which came in the Carlisle, Pennsylvania’s native’s 150th professional career game.

The one-goal Reading lead after 20 minutes flipped to a one-goal deficit for the Royals after two second period goals from Adirondack. Ryan Wheeler scored at 2:49 and Filip Engaras netted the game-winning goal at 11:10 in the middle frame to put Adirondack up after 40 minutes, 2-1.

An evenly played third period with both teams registering nine shots on goal held its one-goal differential until Patrick Polino potted an empty net goal at 19:27 of the final frame. The loss dropped Reading to 0-5 when trailing after two periods and 0-1-1 to open their five-game road stretch.

The Royals continue their five-game road stretch against Adirondack at Cool Insuring Arena on Saturday, November 16th at 7:00 PM and Sunday, November 17th at 3:00 PM.

The Royals return home on Friday, November 22nd to open a two-game home stint with the opener against the Norfolk Admirals at 7:00 PM at Santander Arena before the home stand finale against the Maine Mariners on Saturday, November 23rd at 7:00 PM at Santander Arena.
