Reading, PA - The Reading Royals (6-9-2-0), proud ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers and Lehigh Valley Phantoms, fell to the Norfolk Admirals (7-4-3-0), 5-2, at Norfolk Scope Arena on Wednesday, November 20th. Goaltender Keith Petruzzelli (3-3-1) suffered the loss in goal with 21 saves on 25 shots faced. Admirals’ goaltender Domenic DiVincentiis (1-0-0) earned the win in goal in his ECHL debut with 28 saves on 30 shots faced.
Norfolk scored the game’s opening goal at 16:46 of the first period with the lone power play goal of the game. Brady Fleurent chipped a cross crease pass from Stepan Timofeyev over the left pad of Petruzzelli for his fourth goal of the season and first of two goals in the game.
The 1-0 score held through the remainder of the first and a scoreless second period. The Admirals extended their lead to two goals on a loose puck in Peruzzelli’s crease tapped in by Timofeyev 5:17 into the third period. Ryan Leibold put Reading on the board with his first goal as a Royal at 9:20 following a wrist shot by Gianfranco Cassaro that rolled through DiVincentiis pads for Leibold to bury and to cut the score back within one for Reading, 2-1.
Norfolk, however, scored three-straight goals to propel themselves in front to a 5-1 lead on goals by Denis Smirnov at 13:39, Marko Reifenberger at 15:09 and an empty net goal by Fleurent at 15:51. Jake Smith scored his second goal of the season with a wrist shot past DiVincentiis’ glove at 17:07 assisted by Tyler Gratton.
The Royals return home on Friday, November 22nd to open a two-game home stint with the opener against the Norfolk Admirals at 7:00 PM at Santander Arena before the home stand finale against the Maine Mariners on Saturday, November 23rd at 7:00 PM at Santander Arena.
