The Reading Royals beat the Allen Americans to the draw on Friday at Santander Arena, 5-3. Alex Roos notched his first career goal and multi-point game and Joe Houk scored his first Royals goal. The Americans ended the game with 30 penalty minutes in contrast to Reading’s ten.
Joe Houk took a shot from the deep slot and put the Reading Royals on the board first over halfway into the first period (11:04). It is Houk’s first goal with the Royals.
Alex Roos scored from the left circle with a shot to the right doorstep, giving the Royals a two goal lead over the Americans with his first career goal (2-0). Roos went on to have a multi-point game.
The Royals led the Americans, 2-0, to end the first period.
The Americans scored twice on back to back power play opportunities to tie the game (2-2). The Royals responded just over a minute later with a go ahead power-play goal from Chris McCarthy to make the score 3-2.
The Americans attempted to tie the game at 3-3 but the goal was waived off and a penalty served instead.
Royals took a two goal lead in the last minute of the second period with the first full strength goal of the game. Charlie Vasaturo put the puck over the glove of Kyle Hayton for the goal.
The Royals held a two goal lead to end the second period (4-2).
After a one-goal rally by the Americans to attempt to close the gap, Braden Low scored an empty net goal to end game at 5-3.
The Royals and Americans match up Saturday and Sunday for a total of three back-to-back games.
