Cleland joins Royals roster, reassigned by AHL’s Toronto Marlies

Reading, PA – The Reading Royals announced Friday defenseman Matias Cleland has been reassigned to the Royals from the AHL’s Toronto Marlies. The 23-year-old will wear #44 for Reading. In addition, defenseman Loic Leduc has been suspended by the Royals and removed from the active roster.

This is Cleland’s rookie season. He spent the beginning half of the campaign with the Orlando Solar Bears and registered three points (1g, 2a) in 25 games.

Cleland is 6-foot, 180-lb. native of Longmont, CO spent four seasons playing NCAA Division 1 Hockey with the University of New Hampshire (UNH), and only missed one game (154 GP). While with UNH, he recorded 85 points (13 goals). He was named Captain his senior year. Cleland was tabbed Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week in early January and held his team’s Rod Langway Best Defenseman Award while receiving Hockey East Honorable Mention All-Star honors.
