Royals Agree to Terms with Forwards Michael Huntebrinker and Matt Salhany

Reading, PA – The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League, today announced that the team has agreed to terms with forwards Michael Huntebrinker and Matt Salhany. The Royals have announced six players as signed to ECHL Standard Players Contracts for the 2017-18 season. In addition to Huntebrinker and Salhany, Reading has also announced the signing of Chase Golightly (d), Nick Luukko (d), Ryan Penny (f), and Matt Wilkins (f).

Huntebrinker (5’11/195) (24), who hails from Chesterfield, Missouri, joined the Royals late last season after the completion of his senior season at Minnesota State University-Mankato. In eight regular season games with Reading, Huntebrinker recorded three assists and five penalty minutes, which resulted from a tilt with Jordan Abt of the Norfolk Admirals on April 7. He also played in two post-season games in the Royals’ North Division Semi-Final matchup against the Brampton Beast, picking up a pair of penalty minutes.

Prior to joining the Royals last year, Huntebrinker registered twenty-two points (4g-18a) and twelve penalty minutes in thirty-nine games at MSU-Mankato. A three-time member of the WCHA All-Academic Team, Huntebrinker recorded fifty-three points (15g-38a) and fifty-two penalty minutes in 124 total collegiate games for the Mavericks.

Salhany (5’9 / 179) (24), who is from Warwick, Rhode Island, also joined Reading after the completion of his senior season—for him at the University of Alabama-Huntsville. In three regular season games with the Royals, Salhany scored one goal—his first as a pro, which proved to be the game winner in a 4-1 win for the Royals over the Elmira Jackals on March 11.

Prior to arriving in Reading, Salhany recorded thirteen points (6g-7a) and ten penalty minutes in thirty-four games at Alabama-Huntsville. Salhany, who was selected as the team’s Freshman of the Year in his first year at UAH, picked up a total of forty-three points (17g-26a) and forty-one penalty minutes in 137 total games with the Chargers.
