Reading, PA – The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League, today announced that goaltender Martin Ouellette has been selected as the CCM / ECHL Goaltender of the Week for March 6 – 12, 2017.
Last week, Ouellette went 2-0-0-0 with a 1.50 goals against average and a .952 save percentage, stopping sixty of the sixty three shots he faced. His week began last Friday by making 34 saves in a 6-2 win for the Royals over the Brampton Beast in Brampton, Ontario, which served to jump the Royals into first place in the North Division. He followed that up on Saturday night with a 26 save performance in Reading’s 4-1 win over the Elmira Jackals in the team’s final game ever at First Arena in Elmira, New York.
Ouellette, a third year pro from Saint-Hippolyte, Quebec, has compiled a record of 14-11-0-1 with a 2.69 goals against average—ninth best in the league—and a .911 save percentage in twenty-eight games for the Royals this season. He has appeared in one game for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in the American Hockey League this season (1-0-0-0, 2.00, .905), making 19 saves in a 3-2 win over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on December 4, 2016.
In eighty-eight career regular season appearances for the Royals, Ouellette has compiled a record of 48-31-4-2 with a 2.55 goals against average and a .913 save percentage with five shutouts. His forty-eight career wins with the team is second only to Cody Rudkowsky, who won fifty-six times in 104 games with the Royals. Ouellette has played nine playoff games for Reading—all last season. He has compiled a record of 4-2-2 with a 2.61 goals against average and .919 save percentage in the post season. In eighteen career AHL games (all with Lehigh Valley), Ouellette has gone 9-5-0.
This is the first time that Ouellette has won the ECHL’s Goaltender of the Week award. The most recent Reading goaltender to claim the award was Connor Knapp, who was selected as the GOW on February 3, 2015. Fourteen Royals have claimed the award in the sixteen year history of the team. In addition to Ouellette and Knapp, the other recipients are: Brandon Anderson (2), Barry Brust (3), Matt Dalton, Scott Fankhouser, Yutaka Fukufuji, Riley Gill (2), Philipp Grubauer, Peter Hamerlik, Adam Hauser, John Murray, Michael Ouzas, and Cody Rudkowsky.
