Flyers Alumni Adds Heavyweights to Roster for Game in Reading

Reading, PA – The Philadelphia Flyers alumni association today announced tough guys Dan Carcillo, Dave Brown, Ray Emery and Associate Coach Dave “The Hammer” Schultz will join the team for the Flyers – Penguins Alumni Game presented by Met-Ed, OILHEAT AMERICA and UGI Energy Services set for Saturday, March 18 at 3 p.m. at Santander Arena in Reading, Pennsylvania, home of the Flyers’ ECHL affiliate, the Reading Royals.

Combined this rough and tough foursome combined for 5,395 penalty minutes during their NHL careers (Carcillo – 1,233, Brown – 1,789, Emery – 79, Schultz – 2,294).  Coupled with already named alumnus and Flyers President, Paul Holmgren (1,644 PIM), the roster taking the ice against the Penguins alumni will be a true homage to the Broad street Bullies.  Emery and Carcillo were both recently crowned Stanley Cup Champions as members of the Chicago Blackhawks (Emery 2013, Carcillo 2011 & 2013).  These additions will undoubtedly add energy and some electric moments for fans of all ages to experience.

Adding a little sweetness to the celebration of this 50 year bitter rivalry is the golden pipes of Ms. Lauren Hart who will perform before puck drop.  For good measure, to ensure we have enough Stanley Cup champions in the arena on March 18th, Bernie Parent will be joining Dave Schultz as an Associate Coach.

Players previously announced on behalf of the Flyers alumni include: Eric Lindros, Danny Briere, John LeClair, Brian Boucher, Brian Propp, Terry Carkner, Doug Crossman, Larry Goodenough, Todd Fedoruk, Brad Marsh as well as two-time Stanley Cup champions, Joe Watson and Bob Kelly.

The Penguins alumni have previously announced the following players: Dennis Owchar, Christian Hanson, Tyler Kennedy, Matt Cooke, Ryan Malone, Phil Bourque, Jean-Sebastien Aubin, Troy Loney, Greg Malone, and Mitch Lamoureux. Duane Rupp is expected to coach the Pittsburgh alumni team, and he’ll be assisted by trainer Jim Kittleberger.

Tickets to the March 18 game are on sale now at Ticketmaster.com or by visiting the VF Outlet Box Office at the Santander Arena in Reading. A VIP ticket package has been added to the day’s events at the Santander Arena.  VIP packages include seating in the first six rows and a luncheon including an open bar and appearances from various alumni members. Packages are limited and will be available through Ticketmaster on a first come first served basis only.  Fans interested in the package can also call 610-898-7825 for more information.

This marks the second consecutive season Flyers Alumni will play in Reading following last year’s sold-out intra-squad matchup.

Funds raised from the game will jointly benefit Royals Charities and the Flyers Alumni Association. Royals Charities focuses on bringing sports and the game of hockey to underprivileged kids in the Greater Reading area. The Flyers Alumni will use the funds to support the future construction of the Edward M. Snider / Alumni Ice Rink, in honor of the late Flyers founder.
