Reading, PA – The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League, today announced that Sean Berberich, ATC will serve as the team’s athletic trainer. Berberich, whose services are provided through Reading Health System, will manage all matters related to the athletic training and medical treatment of the team’s players. He will begin his duties with the Royals immediately.
“We’re excited to bring Sean on as member of the team’s hockey operations staff,” said Royals’ president Drew Bell. “It goes without saying that the athletic trainer holds critically important position for a professional hockey team. We’re confident that Sean has the experience and skills necessary to properly manage the physical conditioning and medical treatment for our team. Of course, we want to extend our sincere thanks to Reading Health System for being an important partner with our team.”
Last season, Berberich (25), who graduated from Longwood University (Farmville, Virginia) in 2013, served as the athletic trainer for the Evansville Icemen of the ECHL. While working towards his undergraduate degree, Berberich served several stints as a member of the athletic training staffs of the Washington Capitals of the NHL and the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League. He also worked with a number of the NCAA athletic teams at Longwood, where he received the school’s Citizen Leader Athletic Training student award for his performance. Prior to taking over in Evansville, Berberich spent two years at Presbyterian College in Clinton, South Carolina, where he worked with a number of the school’s athletic programs including football, baseball, and soccer. Berberich is currently in the process of completing his Masters of Exercise Science and Health Promotion in Performance Enhancement and Injury Prevention at California University of Pennsylvania.
Season Sixteen of “Hometown Hockey” kicks off for the Royals on Saturday, October 15, (7:00 pm) when the Elmira Jackals visit Santander Arena.
