Goaltender Martin Ouellette Recalled to Lehigh Valley

Reading, PA – The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League, today announced that goaltender Martin Ouellette has been recalled to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the American Hockey League. In a separate pending transaction, the Royals are expected to sign goaltender Alex Vazzano to an ECHL Standard Players Contract.

This is the sixth recall of the year to Lehigh Valley for Ouellette, a second year pro from Saint-Hippolyte, Quebec. In twenty-six games with the Royals, he has gone 13-9-3-0 with a 2.24 goals against average (eleventh in the league), a .916 save percentage and three shutouts. Last night, he made a personal season-high 40 saves in a 5-3 win over the Elmira Jackals to push his personal unbeaten streak to three (2-0-1-0). Ouellette has appeared in three games for Lehigh Valley (0-2-0-0, 4.50, .877).

This is the second stint in Reading for Vazzano, a first year pro from Trumbull, Connecticut. He came on in substitution of goaltender Connor Knapp in the Royals’ 5-4 loss to the Elmira Jackals on November 20, 2015, making all six saves he was called upon to make in 18:35 of game time. In six total games in the ECHL this season with Reading and the Elmira Jackals, Vazzano has compiled a record of 1-1-2-0 with a 3.13 goals against average and a .906 save percentage.

Reading takes on the Adirondack Thunder in the first of a two-game weekend set tonight (Saturday, February 27 @ 7:00 pm) at Glens Falls Civic Center in Glens Falls, New York. Saturday’s game night broadcast on CBS Sports Radio 1240 am and 98.5 fm will kick off with the pre-game warm-up show presented by Highmark Blue Shield at 6:30 pm. As with all Royals’ road games this season, Saturday’s game will be televised locally in Berks County, Pennsylvania, on BCTV courtesy of Boscov’s Travel and Apple Vacations. Streaming audio is available free of charge on the Royals’ website; and streaming video is available on a pay-per-view basis through ECHL.TV.
