Reading, PA – The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League, today announced that defenseman Jesper Pettersson has been assigned by the Flyers from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the AHL to Reading. In a separate transaction previously completed, Nick Niedert was released as the team’s emergency back-up goaltender.
This is the third stint this season in Reading for Pettersson (5’9/189) (21), a second year pro from Stockholm, Sweden. He has picked up two penalty minutes and played to a plus-2 (+2) in eight total games with the Royals. A seventh round pick of the Flyers in 2014, Pettersson has three points (1g-2a) and ten penalty minutes in twenty-three games with the Phantoms this year.
The Royals return to action tomorrow (Friday, January 15 @ 7:05 pm) when the team travels to First Arena in Elmira, New York to face the Elmira Jackals for the ninth time this season. Friday night’s matchup can be heard live on CBS SportsRadio 1240 am and 98.5 in Reading, Pennsylvania, starting with the pre-game warm-up show presented by Highmark Blue Shield at 6:35 pm Eastern Time. As with all road games for the Royals, Friday’s game will be televised locally in Berks County, Pennsylvania, on BCTV courtesy of Boscov’s Travel and Apple Vacations.
