Royals Announce 2015-16 Regular Season Schedule

Reading, PA – The Reading Royals of the ECHL today announced the team’s 2015-16 Regular Season Schedule. The Royals will open the team’s fifteenth anniversary season on Saturday, October 17, 2015, at North Charleston Coliseum where the team will face the South Carolina Stingrays. The Royals open the home season at Santander Arena the following week on Saturday, October 24, when the Elmira Jackals make their first (of six trips) to Reading. The seventy-two game regular season closes on Saturday, April 9, 2016, with the eleventh game of the year against the Wheeling Nailers.

The Royals 2014-15 regular season schedule is set out in full below.

This marks the twelfth time in team history that Reading has opened the season on the road—and the second time that the Royals have played the season opener at North Charleston Coliseum. Reading began the 2011-12 season with a 4-3 overtime loss to the Stingrays in South Carolina.

The home opener against the Jackals kicks off a five game home stand for the Royals, who play eleven of the team’s first seventeen games on home ice. That home-heavy stretch includes games against the usual suspects—Elmira and Wheeling—but also features matchups with the Greenville Road Warriors, the Orlando Solar Bears, and the first matchup in team history against one of three new additions to the ECHL, the Norfolk Admirals (on Saturday, November 14).

Next year the Royals will be part of a newly constituted five team East Division, which will include the three new teams (the Adirondack Thunder, Manchester Monarchs, and Norfolk) and the Elmira Jackals. Reading will play forty-three games within the division, twelve against Adirondack (6 home – 6 away), twelve against Elmira (6 – 6), ten against Manchester (4 – 6), and nine against Norfolk (5 – 4).

The team’s first matchup against Adirondack will come on New Year’s Eve (5:30 pm) in Glens Falls, New York; and the two teams will then face-off at Santander Arena in Reading for the first time on Saturday, January 2. The Royals and Thunder will also see one-another in Reading’s annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday matinee (1:00 pm) on Monday, January 18. Reading and Adirondack will square off in one other special game when the two teams will look for a miracle of their own making at Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid, New York on Sunday, March 13 (7:00 pm).

Reading’s first shot at the Royals’ former “affiliate”, the Manchester Monarchs, will come on Friday, December 4, when the Royals and Monarchs will play the first of three in a row at Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, New Hampshire. The Monarchs do not visit Santander Arena until Wednesday, February 3, but the two teams will play three more times in Reading in the last twenty-two games of the regular season.

The Royals will play a total of twelve different teams next season including (other than teams already mentioned), the Brampton Beast (2 home – 2 away), Florida Everblades (0 – 3), Kalamazoo Wings (1 – 0), and Toledo Walleye (2 – 0).

Reading’s home schedule in 2015-16 features a fan-friendly thirty-two weekend or holiday dates, including thirteen Saturday night games. Please note that game times have changed for the 2015-16 regular season with all games starting at 7:00 pm except for the ten home Sunday games, which will begin at 4:00 pm. As previously noted, the Monday matinee on the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday will kick off at 1:00 pm.
