Royals' Connor Knapp Selected as CCM / ECHL Goaltender of the Week

Reading, PA – The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League and the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the American Hockey League, today announced that goaltender Connor Knapp has been selected as the CCM / ECHL Goaltender of the Week.

Knapp, a third year pro from Rochester, New York, went 2-0-0-0 last week with a 2.00 goals against average and a .929 save percentage. Knapp began the week with a 23-save 7-2 win over the Evansville Icemen at Ford Center in Evansville last Wednesday and followed that up by making twenty-nine saves in Reading’s 3-2 win over the Indy Fuel on Friday at Indiana Farmers Coliseum in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Knapp, who has pushed his current personal win streak to a season-long five games, has won nine of his last eleven games for the Royals. Through twenty-three appearances with Reading, Knapp, who is under an AHL contract with the Phantoms, leads the team with fourteen wins (14-7-0-0), and has dropped his goals against average to a season low 2.93 and pushed his save percentage to a season best .903.

This marks the second selection as the ECHL’s Goaltender of the Week for Knapp, who earned the award as a member of the Greenville Road Warriors last season (December 16 – 22, 2013). Knapp is the thirteenth different goaltender to win the GOW as a member of the Royals, who have claimed the award eighteen total times in the fourteen year history of the team (with four Reading goaltenders winning the award more than once with the team).

Knapp joins the following goaltenders who won the award with the Royals: Brandon Anderson (2), Barry Brust (3), Matt Dalton, Scott Fankhouser, Yutaka Fukufuji, Riley Gill (2), Philipp Grubauer, Peter Hamerlik, Adam Hauser, John Murray, Michael Ouzas, and Cody Rudkowsky (2).
