Police and Fire 'Go At It Again in Number Ten'

Reading, PA – The Reading Royals of the ECHL, the Reading Fire Department, and the Reading Police Department today jointly announced the details for “Battle of the Badges X” presented by FirstStates Financial Services.

The hockey double-header will kick off with the battle for FirstStates Cup in the tenth annual showdown between the Reading Fire and Police Departments on Sunday, March 8, at 1:30 pm. The ECHL hockey action takes over after that as the Royals join battle against the Toledo Walleye with the opening face-off scheduled for 5:05 pm. One ticket gains entry into both games, and a portion of every ticket sold at the Royals’ website: https://tickets.royalshockey.com/order/group/1415battleofthebadges/ will go to the Battle of the Badges Scholarship Fund established to benefit the children of firefighters and police officers.

It’s important to note that this season the Battle of the Badges will be played on a Royals’ Super Saver Sunday, which features FREE PARKING and the bargains associated with the Berk’s Packing Dollar Day ($1.00 hotdogs, soda, popcorn, and nachos). Also, the first 5000 fans in attendance at the Royals game that evening will receive the team’s annual trading card set courtesy of Rieck’s Printing. There will also be a post-game skate with the players presented by the Body Zone Sports & Wellness Complex. Please note that you must bring your own skates to participate in the post-game skate.

NEXT UP: The Royals continue the team’s current five game road swing at Wings Stadium in Kalamazoo, Michigan on Friday (February 20 @ 7:30 pm et) where Reading will face the Kalamazoo Wings. As with all Royals’ road games this season, next Friday’s game will be televised live locally in Berks County, Pennsylvania, on BCTV courtesy of Boscov’s Travel and Apple Vacations. The game night broadcast for next Friday’s matchup can be heard live on CBS SportsRadio 1240 am and 98.5 in Reading, Pennsylvania, starting with the pre-game warm-up show presented by Highmark Blue Shield at 7:05 pm Eastern Time. Streaming audio is available free of charge on the Royals’ website (follow the ‘headset’ icon); and streaming video is available on a pay-per-view basis through ECHL.TV.

Sunday, March 8, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. at Santander Arena – Prior to the Reading Royals v Toledo Walleye at 5:05 p.m.  One ticket gets you in for both games.  Also, first 5000 fans get a Royals’ trading card set courtesy of Rieck’s Printing. There is also a post-game skate with the players presented by Body Zone Sports and Wellness Complex. (You must bring your own skates to go on the ice in the post-game skate.) It is also a Super Saver Sunday with Free Parking at the RPA Parking Garages and Berks Packing $1.00 day with $1.00 hot dogs, sodas, nachos and popcorn.

History:

Began in 2006 as a benefit game and is played in remembrance of fallen Reading Police Officer Michael H. Wise II, who died in the line of duty in June of 2004, and Reading Police Officer Scott A. Wertz who was fatally wounded in the line of duty in August of 2006.  The game also raises funds for the police and fire departments scholarship funds.

Series:

Reading Fire Department leads the series 5-3-1.  Last year, the Reading Police Department won for the third time in the history of the annual showdown by a final score of 8-6.
