Forward Derek Mathers Recalled and Reassigned to Lehigh Valley

Reading, PA – The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers of the NHL and the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the AHL, today announced that forward Derek Mathers has been recalled from the Royals by the Flyers and reassigned to the Phantoms. In a separate transaction previously completed, goaltender Matt DiGirolamo was released by the Royals from his ECHL contract.

Mathers, a second year pro who hails from Strathroy, Ontario, was reassigned by Flyers from the Phantoms to the Royals on Monday. He played in Reading’s 4-2 win over the Elmira Jackals that day. In that game, he engaged in his second fight with the team when he took on the Jackals’ Justin Sawyer 13:06 into the second period. Mathers also recorded two shots on goal and played to a plus-two in that game. In his three games with the Royals, Mathers has one point (0g-1a) and fourteen penalty minutes. DiGirolamo, who hails from Ambler, Pennyslvania, was signed to a Standard Players’ Contract on Monday and served as the team’s back-up goaltender in that game.
