Radio Recon Ready to Roll at The Railroad House

Reading, PA – The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers of the NHL and the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the AHL, today announced that the team’s weekly coach’s show, Royals Radio Recon, will be held for the fourth straight year at Jimmy G’s Railroad House Sports Bar and Restaurant (152 Woodrow Ave., Sinking Spring, PA; 610-678-1177). The show, which airs on Tuesday nights from 6 – 7 pm, will kick off the 2014-15 season on Tuesday, October 14.

The hour-long show, which will be hosted by Royals’ broadcaster Mark Thompson and color commentator Pat Richards, will feature Head Coach Larry Courville and a couple of the team’s players each week. This season, Radio Recon is also expected to continue the tradition of the player-centric Power Hour Shows (and its world famous ‘What Grinds my Gears®’ segment), which was developed by former Royal Ethan Cox and his cohort, current Royal Assistant Coach Kirk MacDonald. It does not currently appear that Coxie is going to be readily available this season (unless we can coax him back East for a special appearance), so that seat is open for what could prove to be a knock-down, drag out (or ‘talk-down, talk out’) competition amongst our most garrulous players (read Domenic Monardo, et al…).

As with years in the past, Radio Recon will be broadcast live on Reading’s sports station, CBS SportsRadio 1240 am and 98.5 fm. Of course, fans are encouraged to attend and participate with questions, comments, and—most importantly—keeping the host on point, particularly when he begins to waver into the murky waters of crazy trivia.

The Railroad House, which dates back to the 1800s and was re-opened by Jimmy Giuffrida and his wife, April, in 2007, features a menu steeped in American cuisine, offering many traditional favorites at affordable prices. The venue, which hosts live music on many nights, boasts no fewer than twenty-six flat-panel high-definition televisions and two huge high-definition projector televisions, providing sports fans access to virtually all of the available televised action on any given night.

The Royals open the 2014-15 season on Saturday, October 18, at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, West Virginia, where the team will face the Wheeling Nailers. The home portion of the schedule will kick off the following Saturday (October 25, 2014 @ 7:05 pm) when the Elmira Jackals travel to Santander Arena. Royals’ season tickets are currently available.
