Defenseman Michal Cajkovsky Named to ECHL All-Rookie Team

Reading, PA – The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League and the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League, today announced that defenseman Michal Cajkovsky has been named to the 2013-14 ECHL All-Rookie Team.

Cajkovsky (21), who hails from Bratislava, Slovakia, leads all first year defensemen in the league with thirty-five points (13g-22a) in sixty-three games with the Royals this season. That currently places him tenth overall in defenseman scoring. Cajkovsky’s thirteen goals, which are third most amongst defensemen in the league, include four game winners—tied for second most amongst ECHL d-man and tied fifth amongst rookies overall. Cajkovsky, who is on loan to the Royals from Hershey, has generated 177 shots on goal this season, which is tied for the most shots amongst defensemen.

The ECHL All-Rookie Team was announced earlier today as follows:

G – Laurent Brossoit, Bakersfield Condors (36 gp, 24-9-2, 2.05 GAA, .924 save pct.)

D – Michal Cajkovsky, Reading Royals (63 gp, 13g, 22a, 35 pts., +5)

D – Brad Richard, Alaska Aces (59 gp, 6g, 24a, 30 pts., +21)

F – Matt Caria, Kalamazoo Wings (63 gp, 24g, 30a, 54 pts., Even)

F – Jeremy Langlois, Stockton Thunder (53 gp, 17g, 39a, 56 pts., +3)

F – William Rapuzzi, Idaho Steelheads (58 gp, 16g, 41a, 57 pts., +1)

Cajkovsky is the third Royal in team history to be named to the ECHL All-Rookie Team, joining defenseman T.J. Kemp, who was named to the All-Rookie Team after the 2005-06 season and forward David Vallorani who received the award last season.

The Royals return to action tonight (Wednesday, April 9 @ 7:30 pm) at Germain Arena in Estero, Florida, where the team will take on the Florida Everblades. The game night broadcast on Wednesday will kick off with the Pre-Game Warm-Up Show presented by Highmark Blue Shield at 7:00 pm on CBS Sports Radio 1240 am and 98.5 fm in Reading. As with all Royals’ road games, Wednesday’s game will also be televised locally in Berks County, Pennsylvania, on BCTV courtesy of Boscov’s Travel and Apple Vacations.
