Reading, PA – The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League and the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has signed forward Jon Swavely to an Amateur Tryout Agreement.
Swavely (5’9/181) (24), who hails from Reading, just completed his senior season at the University of Maine, where he recorded six points (3g-3a) and twenty-two penalty minutes in thirty-five games with the Black Bears. Swavely, who played within the Junior Royals youth hockey program through the bantam age group, is the first player in team history to advance from that program and sign with the Royals. Swavely, who was three-time selection to the Hockey East All-Academic Team, registered twenty-two points (7g-15a) and fifty-nine penalty minutes in 118 total games at the University of Maine.
The Royals return to action tomorrow (Friday, March 28 @ 7:05 pm) when the team takes on the Elmira Jackals at Santander Arena in Reading, Pennsylvania. That night, the Royals will host another Mama Lucia Royal Feast Friday, when fans can get an All-U-Can-Eat Buffet and a ticket to the game for just $25.00. Next Friday’s game night broadcast will kick off at 6:35 pm et on CBS Sports Radio 1240 am and 98.5 with the Highmark Blue Shield Warm-Up Show.
