Reading, PA – The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League and the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League, today announced that goaltender Brandon Anderson has been named the CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week for February 24 through March 2, 2014. Anderson won both games he played last week, compiling a 0.50 goals against average and a .985 save percentage, while recording his third shutout of the season. This marks the second time this season that the league’s weekly award has been bestowed upon Anderson, who was also selected GOW for the week ending January 12.
Anderson, a second year pro from Langley, British Columbia, extended his person win streak to three straight with his back-to-back wins this past week. On Wednesday, he made twenty-one saves in a 4-1 victory over the Elmira Jackals. He followed that up with a thirty-three save shutout over the South Carolina Stingrays on Friday. That game marked Anderson’s fifth career shutout over the past two seasons with Reading.
Anderson, who has held the opposition to one goal or less in four of his last five decisions with the Royals, has compiled a record of 17-8-1-0 record in twenty-seven appearances this season. His 2.33 goals against average is seventh best in the league. Anderson, who has won fifteen of his last seventeen decisions with Reading, has stopped 605 of the 664 shots he’s faced this season for a .911 save percentage.
This is the seventeenth time in team history that a Royals’ goaltender has claimed the ECHL’s weekly award. Anderson is only the third goaltender in team history to win the award more than once in a single season, joining Barry Brust and Riley Gill in that regard.
In addition to Anderson, the other Reading goaltenders who have been selected as Goaltender of the Week are: Barry Brust (three times), Matt Dalton, Scott Fankhouser, Yutaka Fukufuji, Riley Gill (two times), Philipp Grubauer, Peter Hamerlik, Adam Hauser, John Murray, Michael Ouzas, and Cody Rudkowsky (two times).
