Reading, PA – The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League and the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League, today announced that goaltender Brandon Anderson has been named the CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week for January 6 through January 12, 2014. Anderson won all four games he played last week, compiling a 1.25 goals against average and a .952 save percentage, while recording his second shutout of the season. Anderson is the twelfth different goaltender in Royals’ history to receive the weekly award.
Anderson, a second year pro from Langley, British Columbia, snapped a personal three game losing streak and a five game winless streak (0-4-1-0) with a 23 save 6-2 win over the Wheeling Nailers last Wednesday. He followed that up with back-to-back wins in Elmira (4-1 and 4-2), and then finished the week with a 30 save shutout over the Jackals at Santander Arena in Reading on Sunday.
Anderson, who has started six straight games for the Royals, has compiled a record of 8-6-1-0 in fifteen games with the Royals. His 2.73 overall goals against average is fifteenth in the league. He has stopped 337 of the 376 shots he has faced for an .896 save percentage.
This is the sixteenth time in team history that a Royals’ goaltender has claimed the ECHL’s weekly award. In addition to Anderson, the other goaltenders who have been selected as Goaltender of the Week are: Barry Brust (three times), Matt Dalton, Scott Fankhouser, Yutaka Fukufuji, Riley Gill (two times), Philipp Grubauer, Peter Hamerlik, Adam Hauser, John Murray, Michael Ouzas, and Cody Rudkowsky (two times).
Earlier today, Royals’ forward Sean Wiles was named the ECHL Player of the Week. This marks the first time in the thirteen year history of the team that Royals have claimed both awards in the same week.
The Royals return to action on Friday (January 17 @ 7:05 pm) when the Toledo Walleye visit Santander Arena in Reading, Pennsylvania. The Royals will induct Chris Bala into the Reading Eagle Wall of Honor that night, and the first 3000 fans will receive a commemorative poster of Chris courtesy of the Reading Eagle.
