Royals Sign Forward Jesse Todd

Reading, PA – The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League and the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has signed forward Jesse Todd to an ECHL contract. In a separate transaction today, the Bears recalled forward Tyler Ruegsegger from Reading to Hershey.

This is the second stint in Reading for Todd (6’2/204) (26). The second year forward, who hails from Calgary, Alberta, began the 2012-13 season with the Royals and recorded two points (1g-1a) in seven games before being traded (along with future considerations) to the San Francisco Bulls for forward Evan Barlow on November 15, 2012. Todd logged three games with the Bulls (0g-1a) prior to being traded to the Trenton Titans on January 25, 2013. While with the Titans, Todd scored six goals and assisted on nine others (fifteen points) in thirty-two games. This off-season, Todd was signed by the Idaho Steelheads, but was released prior to the start of the season. He has most recently been playing Canadian senior hockey with the Okotoks Drillers of the Chinook Hockey League (3g-2a=5pts in 3 games).

Prior to turning pro, Todd played four years at Merrimack College, where he racked up ninety-eight points (39g-59a) in 138 games. While with the Warriors, he was part of a four year class that won more games than any other class in school history since Merrimack joined Division I in the NCAA I in 1988 (65-62-17). After the completion of his senior year with the Warriors, Todd joined the Hamilton Bulldogs of the AHL, where he assisted on three goals in five games.

Ruegsegger, a fourth year pro from Lakewood, Colorado, has three assists and two penalty minutes in nine games with the Royals this year. He has one assist and two penalty minutes in eight games with Hershey this season.

The Royals return to action tomorrow (Friday, December 13, 2013 @ 7:05 pm) when the Florida Everblades make their only appearance of the year at Santander Arena in Reading, Pennsylvania.  The first 2000 fans that night 15 years of age and older will get a Royals’ ice-scraper courtesy of CJs Tire and Automotive Service.
