Defenseman Brett Flemming Reassigned to Hershey

Reading, PA – The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League and the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League, today announced that the Capitals have recalled defenseman Brett Flemming and reassigned him to the Bears. In a separate transaction, Hershey has recalled defenseman Michal Cajkovsky, who was on loan to the Royals. In a separate transaction completed earlier in the day, the Capitals recalled defenseman Patrick Wey, who began the season with Reading, to Washington from Hershey.

This is the first recall of the year for Flemming, a third year pro who was born in Regina, Saskatchewan. This season with the Royals, Flemming has four points (1g-3a) and nine penalty minutes in sixteen games. Last year, Flemming, a fifth round pick of the Capitals in 2005, was an integral member of Reading’s Kelly Cup Championship team. In his first two years of pro, Flemming played a total of thirty-two games in the AHL with Hershey (2g-3a=5pts, 33 pims). This is also the first recall for Cajkovsky, a first year pro from Bratislava, Slovakia. In thirteen games with the Royals, Cajkovsky has five points (1g-4a) and six penalty minutes. Wey, a first year pro from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, recorded three assists and six penalty minutes in eight games with Reading earlier this season. If he were to play with the Capitals, he would become the twenty-fourth former Royal to advance to the National Hockey League and the eighth player (and second non-goaltender) to advance from Reading to the NHL in the same season.

The Royals return to action tomorrow (Friday, December 6 @ 7:00 pm), when the team will travel to WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, West Virginia, to face-off against the Wheeling Nailers. That night, the pre-game warm-up show presented by Highmark Blue Shield will kick off at 6:30 pm on CBS Sports Radio 1240 am and 98.5 fm on the Royals Broadcast Network. As with all Royals road games this season, Friday’s game will be televised locally in Berks County, Pennsylvania, on BCTV courtesy of Boscov’s Travel and Apple Vacations.
