Reading, PA – The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the NHL and the Hershey Bears of the AHL, and Cumulus Media today jointly announced that the Royals’ radio broadcasts for the 2013-14 ECHL season will once again be heard on CBS SportsRadio 1240 am and 98.5 fm. The on-air broadcasts will include the Royals’ regular season and playoff games, as well as the team’s weekly coach’s show.
As with seasons past, the game night broadcasts on CBS SportsRadio 1240 am and 98.5 fm will kick off with the pre-game warm-up show beginning thirty minutes before the opening face-off and conclude with a post-game wrap up after the completion of the on-ice action. CBS SportsRadio 1240 am and 98.5 fm will also air the team’s weekly one-hour coach’s show, Royals Radio Recon, on Tuesday nights from 6 to 7 pm. Team broadcaster, Mark Thompson, will continue to handle the game action play-by-play and host the weekly coach’s show with Pat Richards providing color commentary at home games for his eleventh consecutive season.
Please note that CBS SportsRadio 1240 am and 98.5 fm is also the Reading-area home for Pittsburgh Steelers football. Under the current NFL schedule, which is subject to change, the only conflict with Royals’ hockey is on Sunday, October 20, when the Steelers’ 4:25 pm matchup against the Baltimore Ravens will pre-empt the broadcast of the Royals’ matchup against the South Carolina Stingrays scheduled to be played in the Sovereign Center at 4:05 pm. The Royals’ broadcast that day will be an internet-only broadcast through the Royals’ streaming audio provider, America ONE Sports, which can be accessed through the Royal’s website, www.royalshockey.com. In this regard, please also note that fans outside the broadcast range of CBS Sports Radio 1240 am and 98.5 fm can always listen to the audio feed of Royals’ hockey free of charge on the internet through the America ONE Sports audio stream, which can be accessed through the front page of the Royals’ website.
The Royals kick off the defense of the team’s 2013 Kelly Cup Championship with a two-game weekend set at Sovereign Center in Reading, Pennsylvania, against the South Carolina Stingrays. On Saturday, October 19, 2013, the Royals open the 2013-14 season against the Stingrays at 7:35 pm, followed by a 4:05 pm start against South Carolina in Game Two of the season on Sunday, October 20.
