Royals Agree to Terms with Forward Sean Wiles

Third Year Pro Tied for the Team Lead with Twenty-Six Goals for the Las Vegas Wranglers Last Season

Reading, PA – The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League and Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League, today announced that the organization has agreed to terms with forward Sean Wiles. The Royals now have twelve players announced as signed for the 2013-14 season. In addition to Wiles, the others are: Matt Campanale (d), Julien Cayer (f), Ethan Cox (f), David Marshall (f), Bryant Molle (d), Ian O’Connor (f), Ryan Santana (f), Bobby Shea (d), Yannick Tifu (f), Brad Walch (d), and Marc Zanette (f).

Last year, in sixty-one regular season games with the Las Vegas Wranglers of the ECHL, Wiles (6’3/207) (26) tied for the team-high with twenty-six goals. The third year from Beloit, Wisconsin, also assisted on thirteen others (thirty-nine points) and picked up forty-six penalty minutes, while playing to a collective plus-1 (+1). Wiles tied for the Wranglers’ team lead with eight power play goals and led the team with seven ‘first goals’—one of which came against the Royals in Reading’s 4-1 win over Las Vegas on January 27, 2013, at the Sovereign Center. He scored his twenty-six goals on just 165 total shots for a team-leading 15.8% shooting percentage. Fifteen of Wiles’ goals came in a span of just twenty-two games in a torrid stretch in February and March. In late March, he had a productive first experience in the AHL, scoring a goal in his first AHL game and racking up a total of three points (1g-2a) in three games with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Wiles returned to the Wranglers for the post-season, where he picked up six points (1g-5a) in the seven games it took to resolve the first round Western Conference Quarter-Final matchup between the Wranglers and the Stockton Thunder.

Although Wiles began his rookie season, 2011-12 with the Wranglers, he left Las Vegas in early November after eight games and joined the Rapid City Rush of the Central Hockey League for twenty-three games. However, in late January of 2012, Wiles returned to Las Vegas and completed the season there, recording twenty-points (11g-9a) in forty-one total regular season games with the Wranglers. Wiles went on to play five post-season games with Las Vegas, who advanced to the 2012 Kelly Cup Finals before ultimately being defeated by the Florida Everblades.

Prior to turning pro, Wiles played four years of college hockey at the University of Alaska-Anchorage, where he was selected as the school’s Most Improved player after his junior season. Wiles, who was twice the second leading goal scorer for the Seawolves (junior and senior seasons), registered a total of forty-eight points (22g-26a) and seventy-nine penalty minutes in 111 college games.
