Third Year Pro Still Leads All Defensemen with Seventeen Goals Despite Not Playing in ECHL since Feb. 2
Reading, PA – The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League and the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League, today announced that defenseman Adam Comrie has been named to the 2012-13 All-ECHL Second Team. Comrie (22), a third year pro from Ashburn, Virginia, still leads all defensemen in the ECHL with seventeen goals despite not playing in the league since February 2, when he was signed by the Worcester Sharks of the AHL. Those seventeen goals have also established a Royals’ team record for goals by a defenseman in a single season. Comrie, who racked up thirty-three points (17g-16a) in forty-five games with Reading (which places him currently tied for tenth in ECHL scoring by a defensemen), still leads the Royals in plus-minus, playing to a plus-22 (+22), which would be the second best single season plus-minus ratio in team history. (Forward Grant Jacobsen played to a plus-24 in fifty-nine games in the 2005-06 season.) One of only three players in Royals’ history to score the game winning goal in four consecutive wins for Reading (Comrie did it in a span of five games: 01/18 – 01/27/13), Comrie also established a team record by racking up 39 penalty minutes in his last game with the Royals on February 2 in Toledo. Comrie is only the third player in Royals team history to receive a post-season ECHL award, joining David Vallorani who was named to the ECHL’s 2012-13 All-Rookie Team on Wednesday and T.J. Kemp who was on the All-Rookie Team in 2005-06.
