Mitera Returned From Grand Rapids – Wellar Loaned from Hershey

Reading, PA – The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League and the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League, today announced defenseman Mark Mitera has been returned to the Royals from the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL. In a separate transaction, defenseman Patrick Wellar has been loaned by the Bears to the Royals. The Royals also activated goaltender Sergey Kostenko from the team’s Reserve List and placed goaltender Brandon Anderson on Reserve. Mitera, a fourth year pro from Royal Oak, Michigan, was loaned by Reading to Grand Rapids on Wednesday. He played two games for the Griffins during this stint in the AHL without registering any points or penalty minutes. Mitera, who has four assists and four penalty minutes in six games with the Royals, has played 186 regular season AHL games with six different teams during his pro career. Wellar, a ninth year pro who was born in Carrot River, Saskatchewan, was recalled to Hershey yesterday. He played to a plus-2 (+2) in Hershey’s 3-2 shootout loss in Binghamton. He has recorded 21 penalty minutes in five games with the Bears this season. In thirty-six games with Reading, Wellar has fifteen points (2g-13a) and forty-five penalty minutes. The Royals return to action this afternoon (Sunday, January 27 @ 4:05 pm) when they take on the Las Vegas Wranglers at the Sovereign Center. The first 1000 kids 14 years of age and younger will receive an autograph book courtesy of the Reading Health System. There will be a post-game autograph session with the entire team for the Royals. The Royals will also recognize the Wyomissing Area School’s recent high school state championships in football and golf. Today’s game is also a Berks Packing Dollar Day with hot dogs, soda, popcorn, and nachos just $1.00. The Game Day Broadcast kicks off at 3:35 pm on CBS Sports Radio (1240 am and 98.5 fm).
